Vinh Hung Resort and The Regional Delicacies of Hoi An

While visiting Hoi An, we rested our weary domes at the Vinh Hung Resort.  The hotel, owned and operated by a local family which have created a hospitality mini-empire in the past decade, is located alongside a languorous tributary and boasts of two swimming pools, a massive dinning hall with complementary breakfasts served each morning, and an on-site spa.  However; our favorite amenity of the resort was the daily "Happy-Hour Food Market" that was set-up on the shaded grounds between 4:30 and 5:30.

Banh Bao Banh Vac
A soft bed of crabgrass lined with over-sized tourists hunkered over tiny, wooden tables is the setting.  On the periphery, several bamboo stations are laden with authentic Central Vietnamese delights all with a resoundingly simple, but effective leitmotif - rice.  Delicate "White Rose" dumplings (Banh Bao Banh Vac), rice discs with dried shrimp encased (Banh Beo), thick rice noodles drenched in broth (Cao Lau), double-rolled rice pancakes (Banh Xeo), and steamed spring rolls (Banh Cuon).

Cao Lau
A formidable array of delicacies from Quang Nam and the surrounding provinces.

To complete the feed, a dessert station was also provided with a sampling of teas, cakes, pastries, and even some extremely potent rice wine.

The Vinh Hung Resort is located at 111 Ngo Quye, An Hoi Islet, in the irrepressibly charming Hoi An, Vietnam.

I heard that even after you had sampled all the offerings-you still ambled into town to get your second dinner!
