Institute of Lower Learning (iLL) is proud to present the return of prodigal son ONRA, armed with a samurai’s perspicacity and a distinctive crate of vinyl harboring a collection of East Asian pop nuggets alongside the requisite Detroit bangers. A true conflation of East meets West - think verdant paddy-fields nudging up against crumbling council estates.
Onra will present a repertoire of original Dilla-esque beat-odysseys and limbshaking remixes to keep the cranium nodding and the joints cracking with a very special live set. Rheumatics beware; this, his fourth visit to our hazy metropolis, has all the makings of a Kurosawan epic and might just result in some unexpected injuries to your connective tissues.

Keeping it steady is JASE NGUYEN with his sonic chops, veering slightly more leftfield this time. His eclectic style is evident as he spins and produces everything from golden-era hip-hop, reggae, and funk to drum n’ bass, dubstep, abstract beats, and even vintage Vietnamese acid-rock.

Day 1 – Introduction (March 28)

“OSC is like MIDI, only better.”
Control is a way of sharing data between computers.
Just like MIDI, OSC allows synthesizers to be slaved and chained. However, OSC allows collaborators to customize their messages. This promises to open up new ways of control and collaboration–for instance, video can be used to control sound, and so on.

A bit of background: Tad Ermitano is
one of the godfathers of media art in the Philippines, since the 80s
he's made everything from experimental films, to video art
installations, to punk gamelan robots. Malek Lopez pioneered live
electronic music in Manila with his many projects (Rubber, Inc., Drip) since the 90s, while also delving into fusion jazz
with the supergroup Humanfolk.

Hội thảo sẽ giới thiệu với thính giả những điểm căn bản của Open Sound Control. Open Sound Control là một phương pháp chia sẻ dữ liệu giữa các máy vi tính khác nhau.
Giống như MIDI, OSC cho phép các nguồn âm thanh điện tử kết nối và theo lệnh của nhau. Nhưng OSC còn cho phép các đơn vị trong hệ thống thay đổi các thông điệp theo ý muốn. Điều này mang lại một cách điều khiển và chia sẻ mới, ví dụ video có thể kiểm soát âm thanh và vv.

Films About Music: Searching for Sugarman
A gifted Mexican-American singer-songwriter in Detroit puts out a couple of unfortunately overlooked records in the early 1970's that mysteriously achieve cult-hero status in apartheid-era South Africa while the artist himself fades back to obscurity. This is the incredible saga of Sixto Rodriquez. Solid cinematography, a riveting and moving story, and a superb soundtrack make this an unmissable documentary.
