This Weekend: Sushi and Sewing

Hello weekend!  Since my past week was spent battling a flu, I thought it would be best to ease into the revelry.  We headed out for dinner at our favorite sushi spot Hana Mizuki @ 15A5 Le Thanh Ton in District 1.

Eventually, the area around the intersection of Le Thanh Ton and Hai Ba Trung will be referred to as Japantown, or maybe, Little Tokyo.  It's an interesting part of town - all bright lights and foreign businessmen and sordid bars.

A proper feast was in order.  Tender Tako Sashmi and rich, buttery Sake Don.

Vegetable tempura and an array of sushi rolls.

Sunday we snacked.  A recent household favorite is tuna salad on crackers.  The simple, dolphin-free indulgences of life.

I made a trip down to Tan Dinh Market to buy some new fabric and was able to continue working on sewing projects.

Strings of flags are starting to over take our modest home...

Sunday dinner and drinks with our new housemate at The Fig Cafe @ 11 Nguyen Thi Huynh in Phu Nhuan.  He is a biologist and we talked about things like mangrove swamps and the Go-Betweens.

We sat outside in the thick humidity and chatted and ate.  I had a passion fruit juice and Bún Chả Giò Chay (a vermicelli noodle bowl with greens, fried spring rolls, and peanuts).

We moved inside for dessert.  We shared ginger-infused peaches with coconut ice cream.  A perfect meal to end a weekend on!
