Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters) has made another record that is being played ad nauseam in our household. His increasingly masterful classical guitar work and stark, imagery-laden narratives are joined by a newfound sense of wry humor (exhibit A: "The Moderately Talented Yet Not So Attractive Middle Aged Man").
This is pitch-perfect late morning, bowl of oatmeal, sun-streaming
through windows, post-nighttime revelry music. Despite his lyrical
protestations pertaining to the absurdity of being a touring musician, I
sure hope he continues writing and playing his distinctive brand of
existentialist folk.
