Um Cafe: A Very Special Open Mic Night for Sonya's Send Off

Gin and tonics on the roof of Jaleo... a perfect happy hour to get ready for a night of festivities!

Lots of hugs and smiles, celebrating the end of Sonya's Saigon era.

We all headed to a new cafe, Um Cafe @ 18/6 Truong Dinh, District 3, for an open mic night amongst close friends.  Music was played, drinks were had, and merriment was made.

Through the sliding concrete gate, across the pond, and up the wooden stairs leads to a Tolkien world of nooks, crannies, odds and ends, and original artwork.

A great place for a party as each square meter of the main room is cluttered with architectural idiosyncrasies - this is wonderment and whimsy sans kitsch. A truly distinctive place in a city where modern-minimalist decor has taken the air out of most creative spaces.

Local luminaries...

A special thanks to Alec for putting on such a wonderful event for our dear friend!

Oh Sonya, you will be missed by us and our whole community!  We're all just waiting for you to change your mind, dismiss those future potentialities,  and return to us... You're gonna make us lonesome when you go.

Late Night Sushi on Le Thanh Ton

Where do you go when it's past midnight and all you can think about is sushi?

Robata Dining An is located @ 15C Le Thanh Ton in the middle of Little Tokyo.  Squeeze through the tiny door and plop those weary bones down at the sushi bar.  Order from the sushi menu or go for their array of grilled meats and fish.

They remain open and smiling into the wee hours of the night.

A proper feed before sleeping off the night's revelry.

Pictures from Extinction: The Dodos Live @ SGOC

Let the Darwinian struggle begin... may the best beast win.

Oh, Joy Oi!  The shape of your sounds sets alight our mottled path.

Big riffs, boy/girl harmony, and synth squeals... fun times as the sun withdrew.

Soaring guitar leads and exuberant beats from Timekeeper

The Dodos topped off the evening with their distinctive blend of rhythmic chord patterns, emotionally resonant vocals, and percussive hijinks.  A great show by a great band.
